BACKGROUND
MALUTONG is a playful uppercase display typeface by Gian Wong inspired by chicharon bulaklak (fried pork ruffle fat), a crispy Filipino snack known for its wonderfully chaotic, ruffled shapes.
THE CHALLENGE
How can you translate a famous Filipino snack into a typeface?
Unpredictable and playful silhouettes
Taking cues from its curly folds and irregular forms, each letterform features exaggerated curves, unexpected twists, and a whole lot of personality.
